A new production in the making: Don Quijote

The Prague State Opera ballet ensemble is in full swing preparing its closest
new production: a staging of the ballet Don Quixote. The
much-loved title, set in sunny Spain and drawing on arguably the most
illustrious Spanish novel, Cervantes’ The Ingenious
Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, propelled by vivacious music from the
pen of the Viennese composer, conductor and violinist, Ludwig Minkus, offers
ample opportunities for the full display of sophisticated dancing skills.
The first performance of the ballet’s classical choreography by
Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky, mounted here by the current head of the
City of Prague Dance Conservatory, Jaroslav Slavický, will take place on the
stage of the Prague State Opera on February 16, 2012.
